TOCALOMA, Marin County — October 31, 2026. The Cross Marin Trailhead near the old Tocaloma bridge is a practical place to begin a walk along Lagunitas Creek without needing to start inside a state park campground.
Where should hikers begin?
According to the National Park Service guide, the northern trail access is at the northwest corner of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Platform Bridge Road, about 1.8 miles east of Olema. Parking is limited along the old roadway and the west side of Platform Bridge Road. Vehicles must not block gates, shoulders or roadways.
Where does the route lead?
The paved Cross Marin Trail parallels Lagunitas Creek and connects with areas of Samuel P. Taylor State Park. The route provides views of riparian habitat, although conditions depend on weather and occasional maintenance. State Parks separately lists rules for dogs and restrictions on access to the creek during fish-protection seasons.
What about bridge restrictions?
The old Tocaloma bridge is closed to cars. NPS describes walking access through this area; onsite safety signs always take precedence. The bridge must not be used for vehicular shortcuts.
How can visitors protect the creek?
Stay on designated trails, avoid disturbing spawning habitat and do not enter floodwater. After heavy winter rain, creek levels and trail conditions can change quickly. Check the NPS trail advisory page before travel.
