TOCALOMA, Marin County — October 31, 2026. Marin County is preparing major pavement improvements on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, a vital West Marin connection that passes the Tocaloma/Platform Bridge area on the approach to Olema.
Which stretch is included?
The official county bid notice 41EP2601E describes paving from approximately 300 feet east of Platform Bridge Road to Highway 1 in Olema. The engineering estimate is about $2.1 million. Work may involve milling, repaving, pavement markings, signs, shoulder treatments and traffic control.
When was the procurement opened?
The county issued the bid August 6 with proposals due August 19, 2026. An advertisement is evidence of a planned project; it is not independent proof that a contractor finished the roadway or that a particular lane is closed today.
Why does this route matter?
The corridor links eastern Marin to Highway 1, Point Reyes destinations and small rural communities. Congestion or traffic control can affect residents, agricultural vehicles, deliveries and park visitors. Drivers should use official posted notices for dates rather than assume a historic procurement schedule applies unchanged.
Is the old Tocaloma Bridge included?
The paving scope concerns the current Sir Francis Drake Boulevard road. It should not be mistaken for a project reopening the separate historic bridge, which remains closed to vehicular use.
