TOCALOMA, Marin County — October 31, 2026. People approaching the old Tocaloma Bridge near the junction of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Platform Bridge Road should distinguish the historic structure from the modern road crossing. The Old Tocaloma/Platform Bridge remains closed to vehicular traffic, according to National Park Service information.
Why is the bridge closed?
The Point Reyes National Seashore’s road-closure page says the closure began January 13, 2020, because structural deficiencies make vehicle loads unsafe. No verified reopening date for cars is shown in the current notice.
Can visitors reach the trail?
The park’s Cross Marin Trail guide describes a pedestrian approach from Platform Bridge Road across the old bridge, with parking available near the intersection and the older roadway. A restriction on cars should not be described as a prohibition on all trail users; visitors must follow onsite signs if conditions change.
What about normal through traffic?
Drivers should continue on the current road system and should not attempt to bypass barriers at the old structure. The historic bridge is not the same as the operational Sir Francis Drake Boulevard crossing.
